Gorilla Escapes Enclosure at London Zoo
An adult male silverback gorilla made an attempt at freedom when he escaped the confines of his enclosure at the ZSL London Zoo. Although the general public was not in any immediate threat, the zoo went into lockdown where people were ushered into various zoo buildings and locked inside. The irony that people were locked up and Kumbuka the gorilla was briefly free was quite refereshing and comical but the seriousness for the gorilla was not as funny.
Zookeepers armed with tranquilizers were joined by police officials in what became a hectic scene. Luckily for Kumbuka, he was tranquilized instead of killed or seriously injured and is now safe other than the fact he is once again locked up. Zoo staff used unkind words to describe the gorilla saying he was “f***ing psycho” at times, although it should be expected that any being which is locked up for so long is bound to suffer from mental stress.

I had the chance to get up close and personal with wild silverback gorillas in the jungles of Rwanda when I visited. Silverback gorilla trekking in Rwanda was one of the best travel experiences in my life, while not everyone will have a chance to see them in the wild the zoo is the next best option!
