How Calmer Moments Can Balance Your Adventure Experience

We live in a world that generally encourages us to chase excitement. Whether it’s the movies we watch, the music we listen to, or the social media messaging that shows up in our daily feeds, we are told to pursue adventure at every turn we can. 

While many of us have not only welcomed but also applied this messaging to our lives to enjoy an adventurous lifestyle, it’s worth remembering the importance of having calmer moments in life as well. Let us explore how the quieter and calmer parts of our lives cannot only be beneficial to us but can even help lead us to or enhance our more exciting moments. 

Avoiding Burnout

Anyone who has had a whole day or an extended period of exciting activities will definitely know the feeling of adrenaline fatigue. After the mind and the body have been in a heightened mood for a significant period of time, we tend to feel tired. 

Sometimes, it is our bodies not being able to perform as they used to or some very telling signs of exhaustion like gasping breaths, muscle pain, headaches, and so on. And mentally speaking, it can be feeling anxiety, depression, or just a sense of being ‘over it’ as they say. 

This is because, at our core, we’re not designed to be in a super active mode for a continuous period of time with no breaks in between. Calmer moments are actually necessary because that is how our bodies are designed to function. After we’ve gone through the activities of the day, our bodies require up to 8 hours of sleep to recharge.

This is why you should also put in time to taking care of your body and mind alongside scheduling adventurous experiences. Say you’re going on a holiday that will see you zip-lining, hiking, swimming, and so on. Try your best to schedule at least a day where you just rest in order to recover both physically and mentally. This will save you from breaking down and potentially losing out on other future adventurous experiences.

Enjoying Calming Adventures

Another thing to keep in mind is that oftentimes the calmer moments we enjoy can also actually be a form of adventure. Understandably, we think of adventure as fast-paced moments, but some level of excitement can be experienced from doing more peaceful activities. 

One such example of this is online gaming. Rather than putting both our minds and our bodies through a lot of strain, online gaming gives us a chance to enter a thrilling virtual world where we can test our hand-eye coordination and in some cases even win cash, such as when choosing to test our skills at an online casino in Australia for real money

Although this is a bit more thrilling than some other activities, it still falls into the category of low-impact adventure that engages the senses without demanding any real physical exertion. It’s not healthy to only get your sense of adventure from very high-intensity and high-impact activities. By embracing adventure within the calm, you offer yourself a more diverse and balanced experience. 

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

This is one underrated benefit of enjoying calm moments in between adventure experiences. By creating a balance between the two, you allow yourself to miss the adventurous activities long enough so that when you get back to them you’ll be more excited for them and have more energy to enjoy them with. 

This applies to the physical as well. Any fitness professional will tell you that a rest day is almost as important to your progress as the actual days spent pushing your limits in the gym. Giving yourself time in between your adventures means that you can build up to them organically and have a more satisfying experience. So, whatever your adventurous activity, make sure there is rest time scheduled in there as well. 

Bonding With Loved Ones

For many of us, adventurous activities are made even more appealing when we get the opportunity to share those experiences alongside friends and family. A hike, beach walk, or a run is usually more exciting when you have your friends and family with you.

But unless your friends and family are superhuman, they too will also need some level of rest in between. Take your average holiday that is filled with lots of physical activities and excitement. If you only focus on planning adventurous experiences on your itinerary with no rest in between, you’ll likely find that not everyone will be able to keep up. 

Older family members may not be able to keep up with day after day of hiking or adrenaline pumping activities. Younger ones will also be more inclined to need time to rest after a full day of exploring. Creating these calmer moments means that everyone can enjoy travels at a good pace, and in turn this will be more fulfilling for you as well. 

Reflection And Planning

To have the most rewarding adventures possible, you’ll need to have some level of reflection and planning. After you’ve experienced an adventure, you should take time to reflect back on what worked about the experience, what could have made things smoother, and ways you can make improvements in the future. 

You also want to plan for future adventures, making sure you get the most value for your time, effort, and money. Needless to say, these cannot be easily done if you do not take the time to embrace calmer moments during your down time in between adventures. 

Really make an effort to ensure you schedule in calmer moments between your adventures and ask yourself a few core questions. Did you enjoy the experience? What do you regret doing? What would you want to do more of? 

The more you do this between adventure experiences, the more you’ll be able to optimize them for better results, and you’ll find that you and the ones you choose to share experiences with will enjoy them more.
